The coast in Murcia offers a wide selection of water sports such as swimming, scuba diving, sailing, water-skiing and windsurfing to name but a few. There are also excellent tennis courts and golf courses.  With plans underway for 40 golf courses in the region, Murcia is now known as a golf mecca.  Horse riding is readily available in many of the parks and reserves and the mountain region provides the ideal backdrop for beautiful walks, cycling, fishing and rock climbing. Skiing and snowboarding are also popular at the Sierra Nevada which is only two and a half hours away.

Here is a more detailed look at some of the available activities:-

Scuba Diving
Murcia is a fantastic place to learn scuba diving, particularly on the Mar Menor, due to its calm, shallow waters which are warm and inviting for beginners. When you have gained your certificate the Mediterranean and surrounding beaches will offer great opportunities. The seabed around Mazarron is renowned as a great diving site.

Sailing
Murcia offers a wide variety of sailing for the total novice to the experienced sailor. The Mar Menor with its large salt water lagoon is an ideal and safe location for beginners with its cool breezes and calm, shallow waters. The Mediterranean will provide a more difficult course for those with more experience.

Snorkelling, Windsurfing, Water-skiing etc
There are endless opportunities to experience various water sports in Murcia. The beautiful beaches along the coast provide warm, shallow waters making activities safe and fun to try out for all ages.

Tennis
Murcia sports numerous tennis courts. Many clubs provide excellent quality courts, some even offer both clay and hard courts.

Golf
Of all the sporting activities Murcia is most famous for its golf. There are currently over 40 new golf courses being built in the region.  The golf course in La Manga is probably the biggest complex in the whole region, it currently sports  three championship courses and unrivalled practice facilities.

Horse Riding
There are various riding centres which offer lessons for all abilities. The more experienced rider can enjoy trekking through local foot hills or along the many splendid beach coves.

Walking & Hiking
With its stunning mountains, forests and coastline, Murcia offers a wide range of opportunities for those who are keen on walking and hiking. Short half day walks or longer excursions are available or, for the more adventurous there is an extensive network of long distance treks which cross into Murcia.  Walking offers the chance to visit the vast natural protected areas with their remarkable views.

Cycling
Cycling is very popular in the Murcia region, either as a group activity or individually.  There are disused railway lines called  greenways (Vias Verdes) which allow you to explore beautiful areas that are not accessible by car.  Mountain bikers may enjoy a trek into the vast mountain area which is covered with pine forests and is home to an array of native wildlife.

Fishing
Keen fishermen will absolutely love this region, there is fantastic shore and reservoir fishing. The large reservoirs are almost un-fished and therefore offer incredible, untapped potential. Every type of fishing is catered for whether it is an organised trip or as an individual activity.

Rock Climbing
The Murcian hills offer a wide variety of rock climbing sites. The most popular being those within the limestone faces of the Sierra Espuna.

Skiing & Snowboarding
The Sierra Nevada region is just two and a half hours drive from Murcia and boasts the largest and highest ski resort in Spain.  It’s located in the most southern region in the peninsular which allows the skier to enjoy the longest days in Europe.
The conditions for snowboarding are ideal and therefore this sport has gained in popularity at this resort.
