Murcia’s landscape is also unique and its soil is one of the most fertile in the whole peninsula with 30% of its cultivated land irrigated (an area known as the “orchard of Europe”) where lemons, oranges and the most traditional trees grow in abundance. In contrast you will find beautiful mountainous regions such as El Carche, Sierra Espuna and La Pila which are full of wild game and woodland, not to mention castles, fortresses, hermitages and convents. With the Sierra Nevada also just a few hours away, you could be lazing on a beach in the morning, enjoying a traditional Spanish tapas for lunch and then skiing in the afternoon. This is what makes Murcia such a fabulous place to visit or live. Murcia is a friendly region and very family focused. They also have the same relaxed approach to life as the rest of Spain, with the heat encouraging long lunches followed by socialising and resting during the afternoon fiesta, usually held between 2pm and 5pm when you will find most of the shops closed, reopening until either 8pm or 9pm.
